چکیده

The main modelling methods devoted to microstrutured air-silica optical fibres (MOFs) are presented and discussed. Then, the specific propagation properties of MOFs are studied in detail. Characteristics measured on fibres manufactured in our laboratory or reported in the literature are analysed. A large number of potential and demonstrated applications are presented and the obtained performances are discussed. A particular attention is given to hollow-core photonic bandgap fibres and their applications.

Squeezed light from microstructured fibres: towards free space quantum cryptography

Amplitude squeezed pulsed light has been produced using a microstructured silica fibre. By spectrally filtering after the nonlinear propagation in the fibre a squeezing value of -1.7dB has been measured. A quantum key distribution scheme based on squeezed light from such microstructured fibres is proposed.

Manufacturing the Future Conference 2012

Although fabrication technologies of Microstructured Optical Fibres (MOFs) fibres have matured at an impressive rate over the past ten years, these fibres are widely perceived as “challenging” and some key issues are still outstanding in order to improve their manufacturability. One such issue revolves around methods to improve structural control during the fibre draw. Structural control is of ...

Modelling of microstructured waveguides using a finite-element-based vectorial mode solver with transparent boundary conditions.

A finite-element-based vectorial optical mode solver is used to analyze microstructured optical waveguides. By employing 1st-order Bayliss-Gunzburger-Turkel-like transparent boundary conditions, both the real and imaginary part of the modal indices can be calculated in a relatively small computational domain. Results for waveguides with either circular or non-circular microstructured holes, sol...

Characteristics of Multimode Microstructured POF Performance

Commercial acceptance of microstructured polymer optical fibres (MPOFs) is dependent on their delivery of an acceptable combination of loss and bandwidth. This paper describes recent advances in one attempt at quantifying multimode MPOF performance with a view to developing various graded index MPOFs (GIMPOFs) using structures made up of either air or polymer-filled holes.

MICROSTRUCTURED POLYMER OPTICAL FIBRES -the exploration of a new class of fibres-

Progress on microstructured polymer optical fibres (MPOFs), a new class of polymer fibres that were developed last year, will be presented, including various single-mode MPOFs, highly birefringent MPOF, twin-core MPOF, nonlinear MPOF, graded-index MPOF and hollow core MPOF, the latter case being where light is guided in an air core.
